  1. Hello, Karin! During this quarantine time I have been reading your cookbook and love it! I’m ready to get started on my pies and I’m wondering where you purchased your borderless pastry lifter? I am in the U.S. and the ones I see online here all have handles. I’d love to get one without a handle similar to yours. Would you be willing to share the source? All the best from Indiana!

    • Dear Renee,
Thank you for your kind words. I’m pleased you are enjoying the book. Here is my response to another reader about the pastry lifter. I’m sorry I cannot be of more help.

The cake lifter seems to be a bit of a problem. Here in Germany they are readily available from Staedter and from Kaiser, but I don’t know if they sell internationally. At the moment it is a problem due to Covid-19 because the USPS is not accepting any packages from Europe. Cake Boss has one with a flat wooden handle that would not interfere with the refrigeration or freezing. You could also get one that has a riveted handle if you know someone who could drill out the rivets. The holes would not be a problem. I have sent a few from here to the US, but as I said, that is not possible at this time. Good luck. If you have the time let me know if you find a solution. Many people have asked about the cake lifters. Thanks for your comment and good luck.

      • Dear Karin,
For those in the US, a Kaiser stainless steel cake lifter (Kaiser 11″ Perfect Cake Lifter with Silicone Handle and Slicing Edge) is available from Walmart.com

Your pies are amazing – inspiration even for a life long pie baker like me :>).
        Stay safe,
        Cynthia

Today I received your amazing Elegant Pie book. I’m so excited to try your techniques and suggestions.

I have searched for a flat steel cake lifter like you use. Would you kindly provide a source where I might purchase one?

    Thank you,

  3. So happy to find your book, Karin! I too am looking for a pastry lifter. Do you think the bottom of a two-piece tart pan would work? (The flat round base)

    • Hello Anne,
Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy the book. Certainly, the flat round bottom of a tart pan should work fine. Some people are using pizza peels, but they always have a handle, which makes them bulky when putting in the freezer or refrigerator. The tart pan bottom is a very good idea. Thank you and good luck!

  4. I found a lifter on Amazon. American Metalcraft 18912 Round Separators, 12″ Length x 12″ Width, Silver. It is aluminum. This is the 12″ but they larger and smaller sizes. I am enjoying the book as well :).

    • Thanks for the Amazon tip, as they do have several sizes to choose from for whatever you are working on. I just got my book today and of course I love it. I did lots of porcelain and clay work and made tons of leaves, roses, and all sorts of things using clay. I think my ability to do those with clay will translate into manipulation of the dough to make gorgeous pie tops. Cannot wait to try them. Using the Separator to do your work on will be lots of fun.
